Sometimes, there's nothing better than disappearing for a few days on a city break. It gives you the chance to get away for a weekend and have some fun, without having to take a long time off work or let down other commitments. Here are some of the best places to visit for a city break.

New York City

New York City The city that never sleeps will always be a top choice for city breaks. It well and truly lives up to its description, as you'll find something to do at any hour of the day or night in this bustling concrete jungle. The Empire State Building will give you stunning views of the city, while the iconic Fifth Avenue is the perfect place to shop to your heart's content. Take a boat trip out to Staten Island and make sure you factor in time to visit the Statue of Liberty at some point. Times Square is full of restaurants, lights and tourists - perfect for some very cool photographs.


Paris One of the most romantic cities in the world, Paris has long been known as a city for lovers. The very feel of the place will have you feeling loved up and fuzzy so soak up the romance. A boat trip down the River Seine will show you the famous landmarks and explain their origins. Waste away a couple of days in the Louvre, taking in the beautiful pieces of art. The Eiffel Tower is a staple part of Paris so make sure you go up to the very top in the daytime, as well as night; you'll experience two very different views of the city below you.


Rome The Italian capital has some of the oldest monuments in the world and is the perfect destination if you're after somewhere steeped in history. The Coliseum is truly breathtaking and the Roman Forum will give you an idea of what life was like for the ancient Romans. The temperature fluctuates greatly between the seasons so try to go in spring or autumn if you don't want to freeze or swelter. The Vatican City might have a huge queue, but it's worth the wait. Be sure to visit the Sistine Chapel to truly understand amazing artwork.


Amsterdam While this is a popular choice for stag dos, this Dutch city is also great for couples after a city break. The architecture is fascinating and a trip to the red light district is a must. While it might not seem like a traditional choice of places to visit, it is full of history and will give you an insight to a different side of the city.


Prague Prague is known for stunning architecture and there are so many different places to visit. The cathedrals aren't to be missed, along with the famous Charles Bridge. The old landmarks of the city including Powder Gate and Old Town City Hall should also be factored into your stay. The Troja Castle is also worth a visit to check out the garden and its monumental staircase that will give you some fantastic photographs to take back with you.
